Jeanne Anne Thomas was born Feb. 28, 1945, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Edward W. and Kathryn “Kay” (Myers) Thomas. Attending Iowa City schools, she graduated from University High School. Growing up on the family farm, and one of three daughters, Jeanne was not only familiar with chores, she did everything there was to do on a dairy and hog farm and then some. The family farmed on the west side of Iowa City, which later her parents would develop into a subdivision of homes. Jeanne returned to live in this area after living in Williamsburg for many years raising her family. Jeanne had a strong faith, strong work ethic, enjoyed traveling with her husband, fishing, watching and feeding birds and listening to music. Jeanne was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother and friend. As her parents aged, she stepped in the role of caregiver for both of them until their deaths. Something she did with class and so much love, but that was just who she was!
Her family includes her two children, Margo Hocker Grolmus (Tim) and Timothy Hocker (Lana); grandchildren, Zoe Hocker, Drew Hocker, Mary Zmuda (Chris), David Grolmus and Trent Grolmus; Jeanne’s beloved dog, Ziggy; and Jeanne’s sister, Barbara Thomas Hakes.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Charles Hocker and Donald Urban; and sister, Kathleen Sayre.
