Jean Marie Umstead, 78, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids.

Jean was born Jan. 1, 1944, in Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth Willis and Ella Marie (Babcock) Brauman. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School and went on to attend the University of Iowa. Jean was united in marriage to Larry Wayne Umstead on Sept. 16, 1964, in Eagle Grove; four children were born to this union.

Survivors include her children, Joey (Rex) Netolicky of Hiawatha, Iowa, Jessica (Mike) Steffens of Swisher, Iowa, Jason Umstead of Cedar Rapids and Josh (Laura) Umstead of Ely, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Jordan (Brandi) Netolicky, Justin (Meredith) Umstead, Andrew (Darian) Netolicky, Cameron Steffens (Kelsi Huhndorf), Megan Steffens (Ben Campbell), Jacob Umstead, Cael Deflieger, Brynlee Deflieger, Jayden Umstead, Jace Umstead and Miles Umstead; two great-grandchildren, Jenna and Jacie Netolicky; brothers, Kenny (Marybeth) Brauman of Sanford, Fla., and Bill (Paula) Brauman of Brownsburg, Ind.; and sisters-in-law, Sally Brauman of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Bonnie (Don) Miller of Fort Dodge, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Ella Brauman; husband, Larry Umstead, in 2016; brother, Roger Brauman; and in-laws, Robert and Rose Umstead.

Memorials may be directed to the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center.
