Jean Sundberg, 87, a resident of Higley Mansion, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center. Memorial service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where there will be a visitation after 10 a.m. Wednesday. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum columbarium. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include three sons, Gary (Erin) and Greg of Cedar Rapids and Pete (Kim) of Carrollton, Texas; and three grandchildren, Grant, Jayce and Jayton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a sister, Audrey Allison.
Jean was born Dec. 9, 1928, in Albert Lea, Minn., the daughter of William and Viola Knapp Eberhardt. She married Richard J. Sundberg on July 25, 1953, in Albert Lea, Minn. Richard passed away in 2014.
Jean met Richard at Collins Radio and was employed there for several years. After raising three boys, she was an administrative assistant and worked for the Cedar Rapids school system, retiring from there after many years of service.
She was a faithful member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church and enjoyed traveling with her husband. Jean also enjoyed crafts and was an excellent calligrapher. On special occasions and during the holiday season she made personal cards for family and friends.
Jean was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend, whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
