JEAN SHAFFER
Manchester
Jean M. Shaffer, 87, of Manchester, passed away Sunday, Sept. 6, 2015, surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Manchester. Family will greet friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. prior to services at the church. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester. Bohnenkamp Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
Jean was born Nov. 5, 1927, in Manchester, Iowa, the daughter of Ray M. and Emma C. (Baehler) Gearhart. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and later graduated from Manchester High School in 1946. On Dec. 30, 1950, Jean was united in marriage to Ervin J. Shaffer in Manchester.
Jean was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester. She was a 50-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Manchester. She enjoyed quilting and was an avid reader.
Jean's family includes three daughters, Marsha (Bert) Meister of Manchester, Jill Shaffer of Des Moines and Jody (Tom) McCoy of Des Moines; three grandsons, Matthew (Jill) Henderson of Cedar Rapids, Peter McCoy of Fort Collins, Colo., and Ben (Shay Davis) McCoy of Louisville, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Kahmeron, Kooper, Brayden and Aria; and a sister, Helen Ryan of Manchester.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ervin; siblings, Robert (Betty) Gearhart and Audrey (Henry) Leonard; and brother-in-law, Dick Ryan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Delaware County Food Pantry.
