Jean Phelps, 89, of
Cedar Rapids, died
Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by the Rev. Carol Sundberg.
Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, at the funeral home. Entombment Linwood Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her children, Sandra (John) Claflin of Lexington, Ky., Thomas (Sheryl) Phelps III of Cedar Rapids and Dan (Donna) Phelps of Naples, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Tremain-Peabody of Kokomo, Ind.; two grandchildren, Carey (Jamie) Buresh and Landon Phelps, both of Cedar Rapids; and two great-grandchildren, Tanner and Lexie Buresh.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas Phelps Jr.; brother, Bill Tremain; and half sister, Linda Tremain.
Jean was born Oct. 4, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, daughter of Ora and Grace (Smith) Tremain. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1943. Jean then worked at Collins Radio. On Oct. 24,
1945, she
married
Thomas Phelps Jr. Jean was mainly a homemaker where she raised her
family. She also worked in the Cedar Rapids school system in the cafeteria at Jackson Elementary. Thomas died Sept. 8, 2004.
She was a member of and very involved with St. James United Methodist Church.
Jean loved her pets, collecting Hummels and sewing. The couple loved making crafts and camping. They enjoyed their trips to Hawaii and traveling. The couple wintered in McAllen, Texas.
