Jean Nolene Benn, 85, passed away from a brief illness on July 31, 2023, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 10, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Aug. 11 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with a graveside service to follow in the garden of Mt. Moriah.
Jean was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She began working at the age of 14 and continued to work in the banking industry for 13 years of her adult life. She was known for spending her time volunteering at Kenwood Elementary, where she helped teachers and students. She was often referred to as the “Pizza Grandma.” In addition to her volunteer work, Jean acquired a passion for bowling, so much that she was a volunteer for the Hiawatha bowling league. During this time, Jean had made many friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Lear and Dora Stoops; husband, Donald Benn; and a daughter, Christy. She is survived by son Kevin Benn and grandson Wiley Austin.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
