JEAN "JEANNE" MAHER
Marion
Jean "Jeanne" Elizabeth Maher, 88, of Marion, passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, at Hiawatha Care Center.
She was born in Nichols, Iowa, to James and Lottie (DeVault) Porter on May 31, 1929. Jeanne graduated from Nichols High School in 1946 and married John Francis Maher on Oct. 9, 1946.
In 1962, Jeanne and John stopped farming and moved
to Cedar Rapids. Jeanne supported John as he built the Dyna-Vac and Roto Rooter businesses. She was employed by Mercy Hospital and worked in the nursery, and at St. Luke's Hospital as a food service supervisor. But Jeanne always considered her family to be her top priority, and her love, devotion and service to them long will be remembered.
She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church. Jeanne loved the outdoors and swimming; she spent many weekends at the family cabin on Lake Delhi. In her later years, she enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren in Iowa, Wisconsin and Florida.
She was preceded in death by six brothers, William, Ardell, Lee, Raymond, Ronald and Warren; husband, John; and son, Randy, in June 2017.
Jeanne is survived by sisters, Jane Ruess of West Liberty, Helen (Jack) Salemink of Nichols and James (Gerry) of Spokane, Wash.; children, Debbie (Craig) Rambo of Waukesha, Wis., Mary (Don) Patterson of Palm Bay, Fla., Craig (Vickie) Clinton of Marion, Sherry Hill of Anamosa and Angie (Robert) Basta of West Melbourne, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Tina Maher of Mount Vernon; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandson.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in the future.
