Jean A. Hersey, 93, a part-time resident of both Cedar Rapids and Scottsdale, Ariz., passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, 2015, at her home. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment will be held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel.
Jean was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Jan. 14, 1922, the daughter of Frank and Margaret Anderle. She graduated from Franklin High School and Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids. She and J. Taylor Hersey were married on April 4, 1943. They lived most of their lives in Cedar Rapids, spending winters in Scottsdale, and finally moving there permanently in 1982. She recently returned to Cedar Rapids as a part-time resident at Cottage Grove Place.
Jean was a member of Elmcrest Country Club, Cedar Rapids Country Club, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, as well as Las Madrinas and McCormick Ranch Women's club in Scottsdale, serving on the board of both organizations. She was an avid tennis player, an artist and a lifelong bridge player.
She is survived by two daughters, Andrea Hersey (James Farren) of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Kathryn Hersey of Cedar Rapids; one son, John (Leigh) Hersey of Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Marilyn Rozek of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Stephanie Caldwell, Jennifer Robinson, John Krizan, Karen Krizan, Mackenzie Garner, Kaitlyn Montgomery and Taylor Blackwell; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Mercy of Cedar Rapids.
