Jean Fetzer was born on April 7, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of James H. and Sadie (Carney) Frederick.
She attended and graduated from St. Patrick Catholic School in Cedar Rapids. Jean went to business school in Cedar Rapids and worked at Iowa Manufacturing as a bookkeeper and an accountant before her marriage.
Jean was united in marriage to Lester R. Fetzer on April 23, 1949, in Cedar
Rapids. She was a homemaker raising their children on the family farm west of Williamsburg and later worked for the Amana Society as an office clerk, retiring in 2000. Les and Jean moved to Williamsburg in 1980 and then to Highland Ridge Presbyterian Home in the spring of 2007. She enjoyed bowling, crocheting, knitting, gardening, dancing, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. Jean was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Ladies VFW Auxiliary.
Jean passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the Highland Ridge Care Center at the age of 93 years.
Jean is survived by eight children: Michael (Bernita) Fetzer of Cedar Rapids, David (Jeannie) Fetzer of Williamsburg, Gerald (Sandy) Fetzer of Marion, Diane (Bob) Embury of Plattsmouth, Neb., Kevin (Susan) Fetzer of Lancaster, Mass., Sheila (Craig) Stanerson of Williamsburg, Denise (Paul) Gengler of LeMars and Pamela (Stuart) Stahl of Ankeny; 27 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Marie Cole of Sun City, Ariz., and Frances Schulte of Amana.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three sisters, Dolores Frederick, Maxine Meeks and Rita Siedschlag.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg, with a prayer service followed by a rosary at 3 p.m. There will be a Ladies VFW Auxiliary service at 7 p.m. Friday.
Memorials are for St. Mary's Catholic Church or Iburg Poulson Ladies VFW Auxiliary.
