Jean Ann (Giblin) Barnes, 74, of Ossian, died Friday, May 30, 2014, at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah.
She was born June 23, 1939, to Francis and
Bernice (VanAuken) Giblin in Oelwein, Iowa. Jean attended DeSales School, Ossian, grades one through 11 and graduated from Garrison High School, Garrison. Jean graduated from Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids in 1957.
Jean was united in marriage with Dean Barnes on Sept. 6, 1958, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Two children were born of this marriage, Brenda Jean and Bradley Dean.
Jean is survived by her children, Brenda (David) Johnson of Ossian and Bradley (Diane) Barnes of Florence, S.C.; three grandchildren, Nichole (Robert) Datzman of Carver, Minn., Noelle Johnson of Urbandale and Danielle (Edward) Wadsworth of Edgewood; and two great-grandchildren, Remington and Gunnar Wadsworth and a third great-grandchild,
Baby Datzman on the way.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Dean in 2005; her parents; grandparents; and a brother, Michael in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 7, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church,
Ossian, with a visitation two hours before mass time Saturday at the church. The Rev. Msgr. Cletus Hawes will be the celebrant. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Parnell, Iowa. Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Ossian, is helping the family with the
arrangements.
