Jay B. Levsen, 88, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at his home. Memorial services, with military honors: 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial Olin Cemetery, Olin, at a later date.
Jay was born in Olin, Iowa, on Nov. 20, 1926, to his parents, Harry E. and Minna (Rohwedder) Levsen. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1946 to 1948. Jay married Mavis A. Knight on Feb. 19, 1972, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked as a mechanic for Farmstead Foods for 24 years and farmed for 15 years.
Jay is survived by his wife, Mavis; children, Mark, Matt, Joan, Jan and M.E.; stepchildren, Bill, Jeff and Georgina; grandchildren, Nick, Emily, Katie, Kendra, Bryan, Sydney, Erin, Mike, Sara, Becky and Tyler; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Mathew, Ruth, Kayleigh, Aubrey, Helen and Peyton; and sister, Doris Levsen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, K.C.; brothers, Herbert and Joe; and sisters, Erna and Mary.
He was a good Democrat to the end.
A memorial fund has been established.
