Jay M. Hoppenworth, 55, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 14, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital. Memorial services: 1 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Brother Rudy Herb and Brother Dave Truesdell. Family will greet friends one hour before service time Friday at the funeral home. Inurnment: Linwood Mausoleum, Cedar Rapids. A potluck reception will be held in the Community Building at the Cedar Terrace Trailer Court, 1803 Gretchen Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids, following the inurnment.
Survivors include his parents, Marvin and Catherine Hoppenworth; children, Michael (Melanie) Hoppenworth, Wendy (Eric Burns) Hoppenworth, Mary (Ryan Wullner) Hoppenworth-Meader and Allan Hoppenworth, and adopted daughter, Sabrina Kelly, all of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, William (Beverly) Hoppenworth of Maryville, Tenn.; sister, Mary Dobrochowski of Cedar Rapids; and ex-son-in-law, Raymond Meader of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina "Marie" Hoppenworth; and stepgranddaughter, Amy McCarthy.
Jay was born Sept. 29, 1959, the son of Marvin and Catherine (Whittle) Hoppenworth, in Iowa City, Iowa. On Sept. 27, 1980, he was united in marriage to Marie Mahnke at Bever Park in Cedar Rapids. She died Feb. 12, 2006. Jay worked for Newell Machinery, Saturn and Duffy's. He enjoyed building model airplanes and cars. Jay also enjoyed working on vehicles. He was a member of Millwright Local Union 2158.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Jay.
