Janko, Martha Marie
Martha Marie Janko, 96, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Sunday, Jan. 8, 2012, at Manor Care. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel. A private family burial will be in Czech National Cemetery.
Martha was born June 7, 1915, in rural Linn County, the daughter of Joe and Anna (Nemecek) Michalek. She married Charles Janko on Sept. 26, 1934, in Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. Martha and Charles farmed in the Swisher and Fairfax areas. After retiring, they lived in Cedar Rapids for many years. Martha enjoyed cooking, gardening, dancing, housekeeping and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.
Martha is survived by her children, Richard (Marvel Jean) Janko of Cedar Rapids, Elaine (Leo) Shima of Solon, Raymond (Linda) Janko of Palo, and Evelyn (Sylvester) Sebetka of Atkins; eight grandchildren, Robb (Colleen) Janko, Lori (Gene) Eckermann, Kevin (Sherri) Shima, Bryan Janko, Sheryl (Shawn) Woolman, Lisa (Howard) Jacob, Wayne (Joann) Sebetka and Dale (Denise) Sebetka; 11 great-grandchildren Caleb Janko, Allen Shima, Christine Janko, Samantha, Andrea and Gabrielle Woolman, Shelby and Julia Jacob, Austin and Kelsey Sebetka and Andrea Sebetka.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents. Joe and Anna Michalek; her husband, Charles; and two sisters, Ruth Vosatka and Helen Faltis.
Memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice Building Fund or charity of choice in Martha's name.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Evergreen #2, Manor Care and St. Luke's Hospice for their loving care for Martha.
