JANIS MILLER SKOW
Cedar Rapids
Janis M. Skow, 70, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Feb. 28, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness.
Jan was the daughter of Lyndell Miller and Alice Miller Nosbish, born on April 22, 1946, in Jefferson, Iowa. She was a 1965 graduate of Marion High School. She began her working career at Rockwell Collins, where she met her husband, Larry Skow. They married in 1966 and later divorced. She also worked at Armstrong's Department Store for many years where she met a friend for life, Diane Smith. Jan completed her working career at The Meth-Wick Community where she was a loyal and respected staff member.
She was an avid sports fan, loving the Iowa Hawkeyes and Cornell Rams. Jan and Diane especially loved to go to the Iowa women's basketball games. They traveled together, and loved to go camping on weekends.
Jan loved her family and friends, all her nephews and nieces, and her working family at Meth-Wick. She loved to send cards to everyone in her family and to her friends to celebrate every birthday, holiday and other special occasions. She was a kind and gentle person, who always tried to please and support those around her.
She is survived by her two brothers, Larry (Joannie) Miller of Bogalusa, La., and Steve (Ruth) Miller of Mount Vernon; her two sisters, Lynda Taube of Cedar Rapids and Diann Groff, of Centerville, Va.; and her lifelong friend, Diane Smith of Cedar Rapids.
The family is deeply grateful to the St. Luke's Hospice family for their loving and thoughtful care during her last days with us.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
