Janis Kay Cook, 71, of Guttenberg, died Monday, July 3, 2017, at Great River Care Center in McGregor.
She was born Wednesday, July 3, 1946, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Blanch Rose Kanselaar. She graduated from Oskaloosa High School, Class of 1964. Following graduation, Janis worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids and worked there until her retirement in 1999. On June 6, 1977, Janis was united in marriage to Dennis Cook in St. Louis, Mo. She enjoyed traveling in their RV, camping, fishing, riding her moped and golf cart, going to the casino, rock n' roll music, and her dog, Spike.
She is survived by her husband of over 40 years, Dennis Cook of Guttenberg; her mom, Blanch Kanselaar of Oskaloosa; four sisters, Mildred Haines of Oskaloosa, Maryann Torres of Deighton, Mass., and Donna (Don) Nord and Sue Flander, both of Oskaloosa; two brothers, Tom (Pat) Kriz of Iowa City and John (Meleia) Kanselaar of Oskaloosa; her mother-in-law, Dorothy Cook of Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Jean Steele of Oskaloosa and Alice (Gary) Dundee of Cedar Rapids; a brother-in-law, James (Terry) Cook of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father; two brothers, Clifford and Danny Kanselaar; a niece, Teresa Jean Kanselaar; and a brother-in-law, Clifford Haines.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, with the Rev. Derek Sellars officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton. Visitation will begin after noon Saturday at the chapel, with the family present until 1 p.m. service time to greet friends and relatives.
