Janice Rae Schmidt, 84, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Family will greet friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, at the funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Jay White. Burial will follow at Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Janice was born on Jan. 7, 1938, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Allen and Rachel (Leggett) Reyner. She was a 1956 graduate of Monticello High School. Janice was united in marriage to Jene Schmidt in Monticello in 1957. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church and president of the Women's Aglow Chapter in Cedar Rapids for many years. Janice was a good evangelist for the Lord Jesus Christ. She loved to write poetry. Most of all, Janice enjoyed her family, a loving wife and dedicated mother. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Janice is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Jene Schmidt of Marion; four children, Drew (Chery) Schmidt of Monroe, Iowa, LuAnn (Jay) White of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mark Schmidt of Florence, S.C., and Melinda (Kelly) Gordon of Palo, Iowa; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and sisters, Mary and Eleanor "Tuddy."
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Max and Sam; four sisters, Norma, Alleyne, Hazel and Betty; and daughter-in-law, Paula Schmidt.
A memorial fund has been established in Janice's name and donations may be directed to the family.
Janice's family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for the care given.
