Janice L. Naxera, 82, of Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids, went to be with her Lord and Savior early Friday morning, March 31, 2017, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Randi Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Janice is survived by her husband of 56 years, Victor; children, Lisa Naxera of Austin, Texas, and John Naxera and wife Chris of Swisher; two grandchildren, Alex and Hanna Naxera; sister, Doris Connor of Santa Maria, Calif.; brother, Donald Eitzman and wife Mary Lou of Gainesville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, the Rev. Edwin T. and Lillian B. (Drake) Eitzman; and her twin brother, Douglas Eitzman.
Janice was born March 26, 1935, in Madison, Wis., and grew up in Holland, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College High School in Cedar Falls in 1953 and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1954. Jan graduated from Coe College and then from St. Luke's School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She was employed as a registered nurse in pediatrics at St. Luke's Hospital for two years before her marriage and then worked one more year before her daughter was born.
Janice married Victor F. Naxera on Aug. 27, 1960, in Cedar Falls. When her children were raised, Jan worked as a health secretary at McKinley High School for 22 years until her retirement.
Jan was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years and a dedicated volunteer at Loaves and Fishes food pantry. She was a member of PEO and enjoyed running, and in later years, walking.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, family member and friend. She enjoyed traveling with family and doing mission work.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Loaves and Fishes food pantry through Westminster Presbyterian Church.
