Janice Mary Armentrout, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully in her sleep of natural causes on Nov. 8, 2018. Funeral services at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Unity Center of Cedar Rapids. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday and at the church after 10 a.m. on Monday.
Janice was born July 21, 1932, in New Hampton, Iowa, to Russell and Leota Reinhart Erion. She grew up in Fayette, Iowa, and graduated from Gates Business College in Waterloo. Janice worked at Lutheran Mutual Life Insurance in Waverly before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1961 and marrying Harold Armentrout in 1962. She was employed by the Shuttleworth & Ingersoll law firm and later as a receptionist for Dr. Harry Rosenberg. A soprano singer all her life, beginning with lead roles in school operettas, Janice was a member of the Sweet Adelines from 1988 to 1994 and was an active member of Unity Center of Cedar Rapids, where she sang in the choir, led the singing and was an editor of the church newsletter for many years.
In addition to Harold, her husband of 56 years, Janice is survived by three children, Nancy Andreasen of Cedar Rapids, Randall (Randy) Armentrout and wife Anne Updegraff of Urbandale, and Karen Potter and her husband Lee of Cedar Falls. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jack, Thomas and Katie Andreasen, and Alayna and Russell Armentrout; as well as brother-in-law, Harlan Armentrout of Des Moines; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Connie Smith and Teddy Protsman.
Janice will be remembered as a loving, caring and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who used her musical and writing abilities, as well as other talents, to benefit her family, church and others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and were inspired by her positive outlook on life. "Not all is good, but good comes from all."
