Janice Marie Martin, 73, passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at her home after a five-year battle with lung cancer.
Janice was born Nov. 19, 1942, the daughter of Gerald and Ethel (Hotle) Graf, near Washington, Iowa. She was married to Walter Jay Kempf and they had three children. He passed away in July 1991. In April 2000, Janice was married to James C. Martin in North Liberty. She retired from University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City in January 2005.
Janice is survived by her loving husband and best friend, Jim; her three children, Jeanne Koshatka of Wellman, Jane (Mike) Townsend of Wellman and James (Michelle) Kempf of Coralville; four grandchildren, Kyle (Nikki) Koshatka of Cedar Rapids, Nicole (Rick) Beckley of Iowa City Amanda (Cody) Smith of Wellman and Kelsey (Adam) Feldmann of Coralville; four great- grandchildren, Khai Koshatka of Cedar Rapids, Adelia Beckley of Iowa City, Elena Wells of North Liberty and Baby Feldmann of Coralville; three stepchildren, Veronica (David) Cerka of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn (Clark) Remsburg of Concord, N.C., and Brian Martin of Shueyville; nine stepgrandchildren, Shiloh (Lahcen) Qasserras of Concord, N.C., Rachel Remsburg of Charleston, S.C., Luke and Hannah Remsburg of Concord, N.C., McKaylia, Dylan and Clayton Cerka of Cedar Rapids, Ashtyn and Braxton Martin of Shueyville; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Nisreen Qassarres of Concord, N.C.; three sisters, Shirley Brendle of Knoxville, Tenn., Joyce (Jack) Dillon of Wellman and Donna (Jon) Wade of Wellman; a stepbrother and stepsister, Phil (Shirley) Martin of Marion and Kay (Max) Proctor of Drakesville; special "family" members, Bev and Bob Schader of Osceola; in-laws, Ken and Sue Kempf of Wellman, Linda Kempf of Cedar Rapids and Aileen Blades of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first hushand, Walter Jay Kempf; parents, Gerald and Ethel Graf; son-in-law, Norbert Koshatka; parents-in-law, Walter John and Alice Kempf and John and Delores Martin; and brothers-in-law, Fred Kempf and Russell Martin.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Melanie Stahlberg and her staff; Dr. Martin Wiesenfeld (now retired); Dr. Deb Wilbur; the staff at Hall Perrine Cancer Center; and family, friends and neighbors who supplied so much care and love for Janice.
A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, at Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. Visitation will be Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Lung Cancer Society or Wellman First Baptist Church.
