Janice "Jann" Townsend, 64, of Cedar Rapids, lost her battle with heart disease on Friday, Dec. 2, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the funeral home. Burial: Prairie Hill Cemetery, Monticello.
Survivors include her children, Nathan (Marci) Townsend of Cedar Rapids, Bethalina Kitner (Marvin) of Cedar Rapids and Angela (Gilberto) Ixcotoyac-Townsend of Florida; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; siblings, Allen Ulferts, George (Darlene) Ulferts, Ernie (Barb) Ulferts, Harold (Sam) Ulferts, Marilee Dinc and Richard Dahl; many nieces and nephews; and her friends who have become like family. She talked to every one of them.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Rudy Ulferts, Kenny Dahl, Dorothy Williams, Carol Baker, David Dahl and Lyle Dahl.
Jann was born Aug. 4, 1952, in Monticello, Iowa. She was the daughter of Louis and Dorothy (Barlow) Ulferts. In 1970, she graduated from Anamosa High School. On July 1, 1970, Daniel and Jann were united in marriage in Monticello. Jann was a nanny for some time then became a stay-at-home mother while attending Kirkwood Community College while getting her human services degree. She was a social worker for Jane Boyd Community Center, REM Iowa, Four Oaks and Crest Services. Jann was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. It was very important to Jann that everyone was taken care of. She loved to help people. Jann was loved and will be missed.
