Janet R. Vittitoe, 67, of Council Bluffs and Marion, Iowa, passed away on Monday, Nov. 23, 2015, at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha. The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at Union Cemetery, Littleport, Iowa.
She is survived by her daughters, Lori (Steve) Bozanek and Tami (Fred Mathews) Vittitoe; a son, Tony (Darrasia) Vittitoe; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Mike (Cindy) Redding; sisters-in-law, Becky Redding, Julie Jones, Kathy Redding and Deb Redding; and several nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas D. Vittitoe, in 2013; and parents, Raymond and Ruth (Meyer) Ruegnitz.
Janet was born March 7, 1948. She graduated from Elkader High School and earned her degree in education from Upper Iowa University in Fayette. She taught school on an Indian reservation in Oklahoma for several years and worked for the State of Iowa Corrections as a payroll clerk. Along with her late husband, Douglas D. Vittitoe, she owned and operated Quality Auto Rebuilders in Marion. Most recently, Janet was to open Canvas Concoctions in Council Bluffs.
Janet had a great zest for life. She and Doug enjoyed climbing into his truck and taking day trips to various locations. It wasn't unusual to find both of them in a casino.
