Janet was born Feb. 13, 1940, in Iowa City, to Paul and Dorothy (Waldschmidt) Gilroy. She attended St. Mary's School in Riverside, graduating in 1958. Janet married William "Bill" Spellerberg on April 17, 1963, at St. Mary's Church in Riverside.
