Janet Rae Powers, 76, of Fairfax, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022, at her home. Family will greet friends and family from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion with an additional visitation one hour prior to Mass. The Rev. David O’Connor will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Janet was born on Oct. 12, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Harry H. and Mildred L. (Roser) Wickham. On June 4, 1965, she was united in marriage to Joseph “Joe” Jerome Powers in Princeton, Illinois. To this union, two sons were born, Joseph and Jerome. Janet worked for many years at Drug Town in Marion, retiring in 2007. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. Janet loved spending time with her grandchildren and their annual trip to Adventureland. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and visiting the casino. Janet liked to visit their cabin in Bellevue and she was fond of her companion dogs. Janet will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Janet is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Joe Powers of Fairfax; two sons, Joseph B. (Pam) Powers of Grimes, Iowa, and Jerry (Lori) Powers of Springville, Iowa; three grandchildren, Karlee (Garett) Eley, Austyn Powers and Joe Powers; one great-grandchild, Gianna Rae Eley; one brother, Roger (Janet) Wickham of Marion; one sister, Carol (Wickham) Kuddes of Robins, Iowa; and her faithful dog, Gracie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Erla Ankeny and Edna Brown; and two brothers, Ed and Eugene Wickham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Janet’s memory may be directed to either the Free Health Clinic in Cedar Rapids or the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
