Janet "Ginger" Lane, 85, of Cedar Rapids, passed away with her family by her side on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids. A vigil service will begin at
4 p.m., immediately followed by a rosary. Burial will be at a later date.
Survivors include her children, Linda Lane, Laura (David) Franklin, William "Pat" Lane, Charles Lane II (Ida Holiday), Michael Lane, John Lane, Lisa (Brian) Ralston and Liana (Brian) Hines; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
Janet Marie Mason was born Dec. 18, 1933, in Cedar Rapids, to Dr. William and Mary (McAndrews) Mason. She graduated from Immaculate Conception School in 1951 and later took courses through a Catholic College near St. Louis. Ginger married Charles Kenneth "Ken" Lane on Aug. 14, 1954, at Immaculate Conception Church, Cedar Rapids. Ginger helped Dr. Ken operate the Dr. C.K. Lane Chiropractic office here in town. She enjoyed helping their patients and visiting with all the children who came through. Ginger was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception and was very involved in the church's activities, including prayer groups, luncheons and Masses. She especially cherished spending time with her beloved children and grandchildren.
Ginger was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 57 years, Dr. Ken; grandson, Matthew Akerly; siblings, Father William A. Mason Jr. and Margaret Scott; and special son, Kevin Panek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Hospice of Mercy.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Hospice of Mercy, including Kris Seargent and Christa Snider, and Mercy Medical Center's 5th floor and 7th floor, including Nurse Meg on 71.
