Janet "Jan" Louise Waters, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a long illness. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Teahen Funeral Home is serving the family.
Jan is survived by three sons, Rod and Terry Telfer of Cedar Rapids, and Todd (Robin) Telfer of Simpsonville, S.C.; her daughter, Tala (Brian) Nelson of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Crystal, Andy, Shannon, Jessica and Hannah; six great-grandchildren, Sydney, Landon, Killian, Adalyn, Kelsey and Mason; great-great-granddaughter, Brynlee; and her cat, Viola.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Layton; and her former husband and best friend, Ron Telfer.
Jan was born Dec. 29, 1940, in Grinnell, the daughter of Joseph and Hazel Johnson Layton. She was a 1959 graduate of Newton High School and went on to graduate from the American School of Beauty in 1969. Over the years, she worked at Harnischfeger, Fannie Farmer and Norand.
Jan loved spending time with family and friends, shopping, going out to dinner and to the movies and taking care of her cats.
