Janet Hayek, 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, Iowa.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Service in Cedar Rapids, with a rosary service at 4:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Janet was born on April 5, 1938, in Homestead, Iowa, the daughter of Clement and Mildred (Swalley) Organ. She married the love of her life, Carol Hayek, on June 10, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Parnell, Iowa. Together, they built a life centered around family, faith, and hard work.
Janet worked alongside Carol in their family business, Carpet Chalet. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished time spent with loved ones. She had a kind heart and a generous spirit, always putting others before herself. Her warm presence and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Carol; her children, Hal (Marianne) Ley Hayek, Amy (Bill) Ormston, Matt (Heather) Hayek, and Curt (Melissa) Hayek; and her cherished grandchildren, Victor, Charlie, Rose, Liam, Hailey, George, Jennifer, Robert, Parker, Nash, Christian, and Sarah (Sagar). She also leaves behind her brother, Eugene (Luci).
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, her son Timothy, and her siblings, Harold, Cecil, and Delores.
Her family finds comfort in knowing that she is reunited with those who have gone before her. Janet’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to family will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.
Memorial contributions may be made in Janet’s honor to St. Ludmila Catholic Church.
May she rest in eternal peace.
