Janet J. Grimm, 73, of Farley, Iowa, passed away following a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by her family at home, on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, Asbury, Iowa. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, with visitation one hour prior to service, also at the church. Burial: 2 p.m. Committal Service, Fairview Cemetery, Earlville, Iowa. Arrangements by Clifton Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Earlville.
Janet was born Oct. 14, 1944, the daughter of Anton "Tony" and Nida (Jackson) Reth.
Janet and Grayden P. Grimm were united in marriage June 11, 1966, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Delaware. Janet stayed home to care for her children and later operated an in-home day care for over 30 years. She was a member of the Dubuque Sweet Adelines and a self-taught pianist. She played for Grace Lutheran church for many years. Janet was a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Janet enjoyed having flowers around her home and took it upon herself to beautify the entrance to the Farley City Park. She had a passion for music and passed that on to her children and grandchildren. Janet's first priority was her family and then her church. She loved attending her children's and grandchildren's activities.
Janet is survived by her husband of 51 years, Grayden; children, Valerie Kennedy, Vonda (John) Hermsen and Vaughn (Mary Beth) Grimm; seven grandchildren, Brianna and Morgan Kennedy, Keaton, Landon and Emerson Hermsen, and Kaylee and Makenna Grimm; a brother, David (Barbara) Reth; and her extended family.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Ellene Reth and twin sister Joan Reth.
The family would like to thank Dr. Engleman and his staff, Mercy Medical Center, and Above and Beyond Hospice for their loving care and support of Janet.
