JANET GILCHRIST
Cedar Rapids
Janet Lucille Claire (Gravelie) Gilchrist, 98, of Meredith, N.H., formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, April 22, 2016, in Meredith. Details of the service and burial will be available at a later date.
Survivors include her daughter, Leslie Noucas;
son-in-law, Nicholas Noucas; grandchildren, Brian (Leigh) Carpenter of Indianapolis, Kristin (Jeffrey) Kailher of Whitman, Mass., and Michael Noucas of Berlin, N.H.; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Noucas, Scarlet Kailher, Gwendolyn Carpenter and Rhea Kailher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Jay "Gil" Gilchrist; brothers Albert Gravelie and John Gravelie; and sister, Marian Berry.
Janet was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Mason City, Iowa. She married the love of her life, Harold Jay "Gil" Gilchrist on July 25, 1942. Job transfers led them to Minneapolis, Glen Cove, N.Y. (where daughter, Leslie, was born), Langhorne, Pa., Pottstown, Pa., and Framingham, Mass.
Janet went back to work at Framingham Co-Op Bank until a move back to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in 1972, after her husband's death. She worked at Armstrong's and retired from Merchants National Bank (US Bank). Janet returned to Plymouth, Ma., to live with Leslie and her family and then on to Laconia and Meredith, N.H.
Her number one priority was her family. She liked antiques and long car rides to nowhere in particular.
She will be truly missed, but we know she is dancing in heaven with her love.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Meredith Emergency Food Pantry, 147 Main St., Meredith, NH 03253.
