Janet Darrow, 76, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Hallmark Care Center, Mount Vernon, following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, with interment in Norwich Cemetery, Martelle. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Surviving are her husband, Larry; four children, Joanne Taylor of Urbana, Jeffrey (Mi Ae) Brokaw of Lamont, Ill., Julie (Greg) Peet of Rockford, Ill., and Joel (Deb Mundorf) Brokaw of Martelle; three stepchildren, Gary Darrow of Martelle, Denise Wall of Cedar Rapids and Theresa (Steve) Drake of Riverside; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers, William Hartwig of Mount Vernon, Kenneth Hartwig of Cedar Rapids and Thomas (Sharon) Hartwig of Seymour, Mo.; her mother-in-law, Alta Darrow of Mount Vernon; and in-laws, Dwight Darrow and Galen Darrow, both of Martelle, and Rita Vassar of Marion.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandsons, David and Skylar.

Janet Louise Hartwig was born Nov. 20, 1939, in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of William and Wilma Graf Hartwig. She graduated from Anamosa Community Schools in 1957. She worked for the Department of Human Services in Linn and Jones counties and in Visalia, Calif. Janet married Larry Darrow on July 23, 1982. The couple lived in Martelle before moving to Visalia. They returned to Martelle after retiring in 1998.

Janet was an avid genealogist, and spent a lot of time cemetery hopping looking for information. She collected pigs and loved old-time country music and vanilla ice cream.
