JANE ELIZABETH COOPER Central City Jane Elizabeth Cooper, 99, of Marion, formerly of Central City, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Ed and Joan Hemphill Hospice Unit at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m on Thursday, March 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. A celebration of Jane's life will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Vicki Engelmann. Private entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Jane was born June 16, 1918, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Jay and Louise (Hines) Sigmund. She graduated from McKinley High School and Coe College. On Sept. 14, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, she was united in marriage to William "Bill" C. Cooper. Jane was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and also the late Alfred Brendel, M.D., in Central City. She was a member of United Church of Christ, Central City. Jane will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her son, Larry (Karol) Cooper; eight grandchildren, Jay (Melissa) Cooper, Jennie (Jim) Shanklin, Christy (Bob) Rohret, James M. (Barb) Cooper, Richard Cooper, Anita Parvin, Katherine Hersom and David Cooper; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Rosemary Boissonade; and several nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband of 56 years, Bill; son, James Cooper; sister, Mary Dickey; and brother, James Sigmund. In lieu of flowers, the family has respectfully requested that any memorials be directed to United Church of Christ, Central City, in Jane's memory.
