Jane was born December 8, 1932, in Iowa City, the daughter of William “Bill” and Mary (Kelly) Condon. She graduated from City High School and received her bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from The University of Iowa. She worked at University Children’s Hospital/Division of Developmental Disabilities and the Easter’s Seal’s Society in Des Moines until she met and married Robert “Sam” Jansen in Iowa City on February 23, 1957.
Jane was a member of St. Patick’s Church and was a dedicated volunteer at the Mercy Hospital Information Desk for over 30 years. She was a talented seamstress and owned a custom sewing business called “Glad Rags.” She was active for decades in the Old Capitol Quester’s Club and was very proud of her affiliation with the University of Iowa Scottish Highlanders – she traveled with the troupe to Europe to perform in Scotland and England. Jane loved the Hawkeyes, especially men’s and women’s basketball. She loved traveling many times to Virginia and California to visit her children.
Jane is survived by her children, Mary Katherine Jansen and Elizabeth Ann Jansen, both of Alexandria, VA, Margaret Jane Jansen of Iowa City, and Robert William Jansen, Jr. (Kathy) of McLean, VA, one grandson, William of Los Angeles, CA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Judy Condon, nephew David and niece Mary Lynn.
