Jane Anne Balik, 73, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Marshalltown, Iowa, died Monday, March 1, 2021, at The Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids. Jane's wishes were to gift her body to science to assist in the advancement of education and training to the medical field. A celebration of Jane's life will be scheduled at a later date. Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, is assisting the family.
Jane was born June 18, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Robert and Angela (Hunsaker) Smith. She graduated from Springville High School and earned her B.A. degree at Iowa State in education. Jane worked at many schools across the country during her teaching career. She married Anthony "Tony" Balik on Jan. 5, 1980. Jane was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan. She was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church and a devoted volunteer for the Salvation Army.
Survivors include her husband, Tony Balik; children, Christina (Chris) Sorsen and Robert Justin (Dawn) Hanna; stepchildren, Annette (Andrew) Clements, Peter (Carmen) Balik, Jeremiah Balik and Sara (Rob) Scott; and 11 grandchildren.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Angela Smith; and stepfather, Walter "Tiny" Grant.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at The Meth-Wick Community for their kind and compassionate care for Jane.
