Jan J. Garien, 68, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2016, at Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marion, conducted by Pastor Dennis Johnson. There will be a private family graveside service at Oakwood Cemetery, Monticello.
Jan is survived by her husband of 46 years, Robert; their daughters, Chris (Jeff) Juett of Mount Vernon and Billie (Jon) Larsen of Marion; four grandchildren, Sabra Thompson of Marion, Jon R. Larsen of Marion, Jacqueline Juett of Mount Vernon and Hailey Larsen of Marion; a great-grandchild, Josiah Thompson of Marion and one on the way; her sister, Chris (Terry) Lux of Monticello; as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law, father-in-law, two brothers-in-law and two nephews.
Jan was born Dec. 24, 1947, in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of John Joseph Smith and Lucille "Billie" Irene (Blanch) Smith. She graduated from Monticello High School. She married Robert L. Garien in Monticello on May 16, 1970. Jan worked at Rockwell Collins and then Northbrook Care Center for 32 years, retiring in 2013.
She was a member of Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marion.
Jan loved Christmas time and collected many snowmen throughout the years. She enjoyed trips to Branson, Mo. Jan loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren.
Jan's family would like to give a special thank-you to the caring staff at Hiawatha Care Center.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jan's name.
