Jameson, Barbara Jeanette Hayden
Barbara Jeanette Hayden Jameson, 94, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, July 5, 2013, due to complications of a stroke. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, by the Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer and the Rev. Brian McNamara. Interment: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fell Cemetery, Libertyville. A visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her children, Gregory Jameson of Spotsylvania, Va., Sheila Jameson of Lexington, Ky., Shannon Jameson of Des Moines and Hayden (Tracy) Jameson of Cedar Rapids; grandson, Kevin Jameson of Sinking Springs, Pa.; two brothers, Leonard Hayden of Arvada, Colo., and Adrian Hayden of Taylor, Ariz.; a sister, Agatha Coltrain of Moravia; numerous beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; cousins; and special cousin, Stephanie Kirchhoff.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; twin infant daughters, Barbara and Candace; sister, Patricia Clingan; and two brothers, Thomas Hayden and Maynard Hayden.
Barbara was born Dec. 7, 1918, to Jay and Eunice Sutherlin Hayden in Ottumwa. She graduated from Selma High School in 1936. She attended Parsons College in Fairfield and taught school for two years in a one room school house. Barbara attended Ottumwa Beauty Academy, taught there for several years and then opened her own shop in Eldon. She married Harold R. Jameson on Feb. 21, 1942, in South Mills, N.C., while Harold was stationed with the Navy in Norfolk, Va. Harold and Barbara traveled extensively during his 20 years in the Navy. After retiring from the Navy they returned to Iowa but continued to travel on vacations, visiting all 50 states. She remained active playing Bridge, visiting friends, relatives and neighbors, enjoying life to the fullest.
Barbara continued her work in cosmetology in various salons in Cedar Rapids, refusing to retire until 1993 at age 75. She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, TTT National Society, the USS Denver Association, and numerous bridge groups. She enjoyed family camping, traveling, gardening, cooking, baking, crocheting, and knitting.
Memorials may be sent to St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the USS Denver Association, St. Luke's Hospice or TTT National Society.
