Jim was born on Sept. 21, 1934, in Mattoon, Ill., the son of Lee and Lillian (Homann) Wooldridge. As a young man, he was a member of the Boy Scouts. Jim graduated from Mattoon High School and went on to attend the University of Illinois, where he received his degree in engineering. On Nov. 26, 1958, Jim was united in marriage to Sally Ann Thompson in Champaign, Ill. He worked for Rockwell Collins, retiring in 1996. Jim was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve, Toddville Lions Club for over 40 years, and the Cedar Valley Trail Riders for over 25 years.
Jim and Sally loved traveling and trail riding together, riding in 32 states. He enjoyed spending time and camping with friends and family, spending their summers in Iowa and winters in Arizona. Jim enjoyed history and tinkering. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, whether it was watching their sporting events or giving them rides on the lawn mower.
Jim is survived by his children, Jill (Blaine) Rittmer of Toddville, Iowa, Andy (Ann) Wooldridge of Center Point, Iowa, adopted son, Terry Wooldridge of San Marcos, Texas; grandchildren, Kyle Rittmer, Jacy Rittmer, Jessica Wooldridge and fiancé Devin Bettmann, Arika Wooldridge, Allison Wooldridge and Jaclyn Wooldridge; sisters, Merna Board of St. Louis, Mo., Barbara Fowler of Florida, and Peggy Odom of Evansville, Ind.; and brother, Tom (Beth) Wooldridge of Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sally Wooldridge; and four foster sons, Edward, Paul, John, and Robert Heiderscheid; and sister, Mary Jane Goodman.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living, Hiawatha Care Center and to Dr. Mary Ann Nelson, for the loving care and support given to James.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Toddville Lions Club or the Center Point Boosters in memory of Jim.
