James W. Baumann, 71, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Monticello, passed away Monday, July 3,2023, at his home.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Peace United Church (410 E. Cherry Street) in Monticello, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Peace United Church. Pastor Frank Shepherd Jr. will officiate. Dinner will be held following services in the basement of Peace United Church.
James was born on Nov. 21, 1951, in Monticello, Iowa, the son of Dorothy and Willie Baumann. Jim graduated from Monticello High School in 1971. He also obtained a bachelor’s degree in business from Mount Mercy College.
By trade, Jim was a skilled mason who completed many projects in Linn and Jones counties as well as working in wastewater and sewage treatment. He also worked for Johnson Electric, Ralston Foods, and Mount Mercy College.
Jim was survived by his two sisters, Sharon (daughter Diva) and Carol; three sons, Joe (Jillian Hernan), Lucas (Miriam Grinshtein) of Houston, Texas, and Jared (Jenn Robinson) of Nevada, Iowa; and grandchildren, Violet, Oliver, Sonny, and Selah. He was the oldest of three siblings.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Willie Baumann.
Jim was a good-natured man and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
