James Thomas Knudsen, 75, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on July 26, 2023, following a series of health issues following a stroke in 2014.
James was born on April 8, 1948, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Max and Margaret (Taylor) Knudsen. James was a graduate of Luther College with a degree in accounting. He served in the U.S. Army’s 199th infantry in Vietnam as a combat infantryman. During his career, he worked in both public accounting and in manufacturing accounting management. He married Dixie (Gull) Lofton on August 11, 1979. They later divorced. Jim had a personal relationship with God, was a member of New Covenant Bible Church since 1985, was a member of a men’s adult Bible fellowship, and also assisted in NCBC’s children’s Sunday school. James will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
James is survived by his brother, Charles Knudsen of Marion; nephew, Christopher Knudsen and his wife, Dr. Nicky Eustace and their son, Greyson Knudsen of LeClaire, Iowa; aunt, Vernice Knudsen of Sigourney, Iowa; and special friends, Bob and Jean Kolek.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his uncle, John Knudsen.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, August 7, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa, with a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Military service will be conducted by Marion American Legion Post 298 and Iowa Military Funeral Honors. Memorials may be made to New Covenant Bible Church in Cedar Rapids.
