James P. Snyder, 84, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home, Fulton, Ill. Grave-side services: 2 p.m. Monday at Chadwick (Illinois) Cemetery. Visitation: 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at the funeral home.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet (Bill) Thomsen of Olin; a son, Mark (Barb) Carstensen-Snyder of Goose Lake; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Arlyn (Marilyn) Snyder of Rockford, Ill., and George (Carolyn) Snyder of Morrison, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly; and three brothers, Kenneth, Raymond and Bill Snyder.
Jim was born Oct. 10, 1930, in Ustick Township, Ill., to Cornelius and Grace (Smith) Snyder. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He married Beverly J. Handel on May 29, 1955, in Chadwick, Ill. She died June 13, 2002. Jim was employed at Clinton Corn and Processing in Clinton, retiring in 1980. He then was employed by Clinton Community Schools for 12 years.
He was a member of Evangelical Free Church in Clinton, where he served as a deacon. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grand-children.
A memorial fund has been established.
