JAMES T. SEVERSON

James T. Severson, 57, won his war with cancer on Monday, Nov. 13, 2017. Jim was born April 5, 1960, in Decorah, Iowa, to Leonard Jr. and Donna Severson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Memorial Services of Iowa Funeral Home, 4208 N. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny. Funeral services will be
held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines.
Jim attended South Winneshiek High School in Calmar, then graduated cum laude from Upper Iowa University with a B.A. in accounting. He also obtained his CPA license. In 1985, he met his future wife, Renee Segelke. They were married April 8, 1988, at Waimea Falls, Oahu, Hawaii, and made their home in Cedar Rapids. He worked 30 years at Alliant Energy in various accounting management roles. He and Renee moved to Ankeny in 2016. He retired in 2017 to focus on battling his cancer and more importantly, to spend more time with family.
Jim didn't have many loves, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his wife, children, grandson and family. He had many interests, attending his children's activities, playing basketball and golf, bicycling, traveling and grilling perfect burgers. He was a big fan of the Riviera Maya, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the bands, Kutless and the Eagles. Jim was a man of God who loved his Lord. His faith never waivered. He was incredibly loved and cherished by his family.
Jim is survived by his wife of 29 years, Renee; children, Amanda Paige (Ben) Wiele and Brock James Severson; his grandson, Theo James Wiele; his mother, Donna Severson; siblings, Ron (Sue) Severson, Alan (Pam) Severson, Robin (Marty) Andera and Todd (Leah) Severson; mother-in-law, Jackie Segelke Waggoner; brother-in-law, Ron Segelke; and many extended family, special friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard; father-in-law, Donnie Segelke; a sister, Loretta; brother Jeff; and his grandparents.
