James Michael "Jim" Ryan, 57, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at St. Luke's Hospital after a 15-month illness.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 1, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Jim was born Aug. 29, 1958, in New Haven, Conn., to James Francis and Dorothy Dolores (Tarquino) Ryan. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he served honorably until 2000. He was stationed in Berlin, England, Colorado and California throughout his military career, serving as a Russian linguist. He was united in marriage to Diana Lindsey on Dec. 20, 1984, in Berlin, Germany. To this union, three children were born.
After retiring from the Air Force, Jim and Diana settled in Cedar Rapids, where they have made their home for the past 14 years. He was employed most recently with Whelan Security. He enjoyed working with his colleagues immensely and considered them close friends.
Jim was a huge Boston Red Sox fan. He was a laid-back, friendly guy and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Ryan; three children, Michael of Cedar Rapids, Angela of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kylie of Cedar Rapids; his father, James F. Ryan of North Haven, Conn.; brother, John (Cynthia) Ryan of North Haven, Conn.; sister, Cathy Vo of West Haven, Conn.; as well as his beloved pit bull, Roscoe.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
