James Robert Boyd, 85, of Marion, Iowa, passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, after a short illness. Visitation: 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with the funeral service to follow at the funeral home. A reception will be held immediately after the service at the Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Robert was born Aug. 1, 1932, in Missouri, the son of John and Marie (Smiley) Boyd. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. Robert married Alba Jean Hamilton. She passed away in 1989. He was an independent truck driver for 36 years, and enjoyed spending time with family. Robert was a hard worker who loved a game of cards or going out to eat.
Robert is survived by his children, Donna J. Metz of Cedar Rapids, Robert W. (Chong) Boyd of Las Vegas, Nev., and Ricky J. (Sue) Boyd of Lovettsville, Va.; grandchildren, Shamron Kluck, Jason Boyd, James (Marian) Boyd, Erik (Kristen) Boyd and Alex Boyd; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Helen (Clyde) Burk of Lenexa, Kan., Rahma Huddleston of Mexico, Mo., and Orval (Barb) Boyd of Sun City, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, James A. Boyd; siblings, Virginia Clark, J.W. Boyd, Mary Lou Martin, Lawrence Boyd and Carl Boyd; and infant sisters, Anna Bell Boyd and Ila Marie Boyd.
