JAMES O'NEAL RIDINGS

James O'Neal Ridings, 80, died Monday, June 13, 2016, at his home in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a brother, Wendell Ridings, Bloomsdale, Mo.; daughter, Patty Panagos, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; daughter, Theresa Ridings, Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his beagle, Cassie.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edna and Grover Ridings; brother, Lawrence E. Riding; sister, Myrt Bruns; sister, Jean Johnson; daughter, Lisa Ridings; and a grandson.
Jim was born in West Point, Ark., on Aug. 20, 1935, and served in the Air Force after graduation from high school. He worked as a union ironworker throughout his life, serving three times as president of lronworkers Local No. 89 and remained a strong union man even in retirement.
A special thank-you goes to UnityPoint Hospice for their loving care during his last months, especially Julie, Bobbi Jo, Lorrie and Jackie.
Cremation has taken place at Jim's request, and a celebration of his life will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the home of Jane Carson, 1443 Blain Cemetery Rd. NW, Swisher.
