James "Jim" L. Ramsey, 74, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Center Point, died Monday, April 6, 2015. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at Center Point United Methodist Church in Center Point, with Pastor
Mike Ellson officiating. The family will greet friends one hour before the service. Burial, with military honors: Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Adel, at a later date.
He is survived by his wife, Ginny; his children, Todd (Shelly) Ramsey of Urbana, Tisha (Kevin) Kinley of Bondurant and Tanya (Alan) Michel of Giddings, Texas; eight grandchildren, Dylan, Ty, Jylian, Caitlyn, Connor, Hannah, Avery and Sadie; and two sisters, Doris (Bill) Haeussler of Marion and Barbara Ashlock of Center Point.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Ramsey; and one sister, Patsy Shaheen.
James "Jim" Leon Ramsey was born April 17, 1940, to Marvin "Bud" and Harriet (Batchelder) Ramsey, in Urbana, Iowa. He married Virginia "Ginny" Lee Fagle on Sept. 3, 1961, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was a United States Army veteran. Jim worked for Rockwell Collins for 38 years, retiring in 1997.
Following retirement, he worked at DPS for 10 years. He was a member of the Center Point United Methodist Church and served in many capacities. Jim was very active in the Center Point community, serving on the City Council, as well as a volunteer EMT and fireman. He also was active in Little League baseball (use two hands). Jim loved his time on the golf course at Rolling Acres in Center Point. During Jim's life he enjoyed weight lifting and helped train the Center Point players.
A memorial fund has been established in Jim's memory.
