JAMES PAULSON Des Moines James Paulson, 79, passed away peacefully at Kavanagh on 56th Hospice on Feb. 4, 2015, from lung cancer. Jim was born April 28, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Clarence and Elma Paulson. He attended Coe College and the University of Iowa. In 1984, he graduated from McGeorge School of Law. Jim served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. He retired as an administrative law judge for the State of Iowa. Jim was one of the pioneers of the disability program, having been with DDS for 43 years. He had served as an examiner, vocational specialist, (one of the first in the nation), supervisor (one of the first super-visors ever in DDS), and disability hearing officers (one of the first in the nation). In May 2004, he was selected to receive an Associate Commissioner's Award for outstanding service, achievement and dedication to the Social Security services and the disabled citizens of Iowa. Upon retiring, he had been a volunteer for Animal Lifeline of Iowa. Jim is survived by his children, Jeff (Nan) of Arizona, Mark of Cedar Rapids, Dana of Arizona and Dawn (David) of Arizona; four grandchildren; and companion, Joyce Rice.
