James P. "Jim" Lacina, 79, of Tama, passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022, at his home surrounded by family due to a lengthy illness. Private family services will be held. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in rural Tama. A public Celebration of Life will be held from 5 to
8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Tama American Legion in Tama.
Jim was born on May 28, 1942, in Highland Township, rural Tama, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Pearl (Pegum) Lacina.
He graduated from Tama High School in 1960.
Jim served his country in the U.S. Army Reserve for many years.
On Feb. 29, 1964, he was united in marriage to Rosie Smith at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Jim farmed and worked for Custers International Implement in Tama for 25 years. He also worked for Eastern Iowa Breeders.
Jim was a member of the American Legion where he was a 50-year member since May 14, 2019. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a trustee for the Highland Township. Jim was active in T.I.P. and was on the election committee. He loved attending his livestock, "Happy Hours," and driving around the countryside observing wild life and landscapes. His hobbies were fishing, hunting and trapping.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Rosie Lacina of Tama; his children, Tammy (Steve) Schuett of Brooklyn, Lance (Shelly) Lacina of Tama, Mitzi (Mike) Waterbury of Tama and Brock (Amber) Lacina of Tama; nine grandchildren, Ashley (Cory) Sawyer, Dustin (Katie) Schuett, Chase (Emilee) Schuett, Shellene Lacina, Lansin Lacina, Madison Waterbury, Myles Waterbury, McKade Waterbury and Lola Lacina; six great-grandchildren, Ryker and Rylee Sawyer, August, Hudson and Cora Schuett, and Finlee Schuett; sisters-in-law, Mary (Ron) Timm of Toledo, Karen Smith of Toledo, and Donna Smith of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Keely Lacina; one brother in infancy; and brothers-in-law, Kenny Smith and Mike Smith.
Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church in rural Tama.
Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo, is assisting the family with arrangements.
