James L. Noethe, 72, of Center Point, died Friday, June 20, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor Dan Wiersema. Family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 23, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Noethe of Center Point; children, Sandra (Kevin) Robinson of Dunkerton, Jean (Don) Shirk of Waterloo, James U. (Traci) Noethe of Cedar Rapids and James G. "George" (Joni) Noethe of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grand-children; and siblings, JoAnn (Roger) Killmer of Spencer, Phyllis (Jeff) Gillispie of Primghar, Barbara (Bob) Conrad of Fallon, Nev., Joyce Sandelin of Sioux Falls, S.D., Butch (Sue) Noethe of Spirit Lake and Evelyn Noethe of Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott D. Noethe; and brothers, Tom and David Noethe.

James was born July 29, 1941, in Granville, Iowa, son of Urban and Orese (Allard) Noethe. He graduated from Everly High School in Everly, Iowa. On June 7, 1961, he married Janet Brown at Salem United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. They helped farm in Hartley, Iowa, and later moved to Cedar Rapids, where he worked at Hupp Electric Motors before retiring in 2005.

James was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school. He enjoyed fishing and computers and built his last computer. James was a Chicago Cubs fan. He took classes at Kirkwood Community College to become an interim pastor and served at Bethel Baptist Church in Independence.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be directed to a fund to be established.
