James Moses Allen Jr., 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021, at Terrace Glen Village in Marion, Iowa. A private inurnment was held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
James was born on Jan. 30, 1933, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of James and Pansy (McKeehan) Allen. At the age of 5, the family moved to Cedar Rapids. James graduated from Franklin High School in 1951. He achieved his B.S from Iowa State College in 1955 and attended University of Iowa for graduate work for his Master's.
He served honorably in the U.S. Army, while stationed in Hoechst, Germany.
James was united in marriage to his college sweetheart, Charlotte Joan Shelgren on Aug. 10, 1957. He was employed as a teacher, realtor, stockbroker, and had a house painting business. During their 64 years of marriage they lived in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Edina, Minn.; Sarasota, Fla.; and Hayward, Wis.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte "Jo" Allen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two children, Aaron Allen of Chippewa Falls, Wis., and Andrea (Tony) Yelden; two grandchildren, Gus and Molly Yelden, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; three siblings, Dawn Charbonneau of Glendale, Wis., Elizabeth Allen of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Mindy (Jay) Cox of Brookfield, Wis.
James was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, June Vogt.
