JAMES MESKIMEN

James "Jim" Marshall Meskimen of Florence, Ariz., died Monday, May 12, 2014.
Mr. Meskimen was born in Sioux City, Iowa, to Lois and Earl (Tim) Meskimen on Aug. 27, 1939.
He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Robert "Bob" Meskimen.
He is survived by his wife, Judy; daughter, Beth Harris of Charlotte, N.C.; and son, Brad Meskimen of Rogers, Minn. He was the loving grandfather to five grandchildren: Chloe and Callan Harris and Reece, Raegan and Ross Meskimen. He also is survived by his brother, Jon Meskimen and wife Pat; and sister-in-law, JoLynne Meskimen.
Ever the athletics enthusiast and dedicated educator, he was on the basketball and track squads at I.S.T.C. (University of Northern Iowa) from 1957 to 1961 where he obtained his undergraduate degree. He obtained his master's degree in education at University of Northern Colorado in 1967.
He taught for 35 years in the Cedar Rapids School District. Thirty-one of these years were spent teaching and coaching at Franklin Junior High/Middle School.
He spent many summers caring for and managing summer pool programs, including Cedar Rapids Municipal Pools, Elmcrest Country Club and Cedar Rapids Country Club.
Upon retiring in 1996, he and Judy spent their winters in central Florida, then in South Carolina and most recently in Arizona. He also enjoyed living at his Minnesota home in the summers.
His hobbies included golf, bridge, officiating football (32 years) and his grandchildren.
In accordance with Jim's wishes, there will be no services and he will be cremated.
