James E. "Harry" Manary, 89, died peacefully Friday, June 9, 2017, at Mercy Hospice surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, with the Rev. Randy Harker officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. A time of fellowship will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Kirkwood Room (next to the funeral home).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Mercy Foundation for Mercy Hospice.
James was born Feb. 19, 1928, the son of Chester and Nellie Woods Manary. James married Carol Grecian on Jan. 5, 1949, in Wapello, Iowa.
James was employed by Mayflower Transfer and Rock Island Motors for over 50 years. From 1967 to 1971, he was affiliated with Fairfield Sports. In 1971, James and Carol became owners of Harry's Custom Trophies in Coralville, a business still owned and operated by the family.
He loved to hunt, fish and trap shoot.
James is survived by his loving wife, Carol; their four children, Steve (Linda) Manary of North Liberty, Craig (Cheryl) Manary of Iowa City, Rick Manary of Tiffin and Kevin (Linda) Manary of Solon; eight grandchildren, Corey (Pam), Jaime, Brian, Kelli (Nolan) Symmonds, Megan, Kim (Todd) Hinkel, Michael Doyle and Mitchell (Judy) Doyle; 15 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Michiko Manary.
James was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Leo Embree; his brother, Jack; and his sister, Bertha Jean.
