JAMES "JIM" ROBERT LUEDTKA

James "Jim" Robert Luedtka, 66, of Solon, died Sunday, March 5, 2017, from complications following a stroke. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 13, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon with Father Tim Sheedy presiding. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday, March 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church from 3 to 7 p.m., with a prayer vigil being held at 7 p.m. Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre in Solon is serving the family.
James was born Sept. 5, 1950, in Muscatine, the son of Leonard and Margaret (State) Luedtka. He graduated from Hayes Catholic High School in Muscatine. Jim graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a business degree. Jim was united in marriage to Janet Finley on Aug. 25, 1973, in Muscatine. Jim worked in construction equipment sales for many years, retiring from Altorfer Caterpillar in 2011. He enjoyed socializing with friends and neighbors, puttering around in the yard and workshop, fishing in Canada, traveling, and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jim was very active in his church, and served in many facets for the betterment of St. Mary's Parish.
Jim is survived by his wife, Janet; his son, Brian Luedtka of Coralville; his daughter, Stacey (Jake) Munson of Solon; three grandchildren, Mabel, June and Jack Munson; and his brother, Charles (Ann) Luedtka of Cedar Rapids; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be directed to either the Salvation Army or the James Luedtka Memorial Scholarship Fund – St. Mary's.
